- 1​​Cross-sectional surveys give a snapshot at a specific point in time
- 2​​Case control surveys ​investigate the cause when the effect is known
- 3​​Retrospective surveys look backwards into the past to get answers
- 1​​​Longitudinal surveys are used over a period of time to study cause and effect
